C’mon Everyone! Time To Visit Candy Cane Lane!

December 3rd, 2007 Written by: Jon· No Comments

candycanelaneIt’s officially December. I have now accepted the Christmas vibe into my heart. It has been cold enough and I’ve had my nog. Now it’s time to revisist my favorite tradition in the valley. Good ol’ Candy Cane Lane off Winnetka.

I don’t know of any other neighborhoods that puts up a great Christmas light spectacle like this one. My mom used to take me and my friends every year in her convertible Volswagon Cabriolet. We would have the top down and sit up on top of the back seats, oohing and aahing and all the awesome decorations. Now I go with my girlfriend and ooh and aah with her.

The Candy Cane lane tradition in Woodland Hills has been going on for more than fifty years. The half mile area is glowing with lights every year. The honor/curse of putting up lights and decorations is passed down from generation to generation or homeowner to homeowner. I have heard many stories about people selling their house only to people that would promise to keep up the tradition. For the most part, they seem to have kept their side of the bargain.

Come on down this December and see some pretty awesome decorations. This isn’t some namby pamby neighborhood Christmas light decorating shindig… this is some big league lighting. I always look forward to the huge house at the end of the street that has, literally, a miniature city taking up their huge front yard. You could spend an hour just looking at all the familiar looking fictional characters interacting in the little world. Kermit’s always doing something crazy.

So hop in that convertible, pour yourself some nog, and cruise slowly down the lane with all the other oohers and aahers…because no matter how old and “mature” you get, you can always ooh and aah at some pretty lights.
