Robert Mellor’s seductive paintings are inspired by his fascination with organic forms that appear in landscape, textile design and decoration. Executed in multiple layers of acrylic paint, the surfaces exhibit a subtle relief of cut away painted patterns. Mellor likens this process to problem solving, infatuated with visual complexity and the limitless possibilities that unfold with every creative decision. The enlivened colors and recognizable shapes combine to reveal ornate abstractions where the unfolding reality is tenuous.
