Shooting Threat at LMU

December 12th, 2007 Written by: Mali· No Comments

lmuAccording to the Los Angeles Police Department, a student was arrested this past Saturday after he was linked to internet-based college campus shooting threats.

It all started when an anonymous threat was posted on a popular college student blog site, juicycampus.com. Loyola Marymount safety personnel reported the threat to police after someone tipped them off.

What the hell is wrong with people? Seriously? A 21- year old, Loyola Marymount student, Carlos Huerta was taken into custody Saturday night after an anonymous threat was posted on the college’s blog juicycampus.com.

The threat stated that the suspect would shoot and kill numerous people until killed by police. Associatedcontent.com reports:

The Los Angeles Police Department immediately put their Major Crimes and Computer Crimes Unit on the case. They found that the threat had come from a computer used and registered under Carlos Huerta’s name. They then decided that it was sufficient enough evidence to take the Loyola Marymount Student into police custody.

The school has alerted faculty, students and staff and is taking additional safety precautions on campus. Now to me this sounds like it’s a phony, but who the hell knows. Could be a pissed of ex-roommate or it could be the pressure of finals, I have no clue. But this is something that has been happening recently. Apparently all those aggressive high schoolers that didn’t go nuts are now doing so in college.

What may be even scarier is that this is the second threat that the LAPD has had to deal with since the Omaha, Nebraska mall shooting that occurred back on December 5th. The other incident was a threat against the Grove, a popular Los Angeles shopping mall. The threat was made by an 20-year-old Australian man, who was detained by Australian authorities and will most likely owe over $100,000 to the LAPD for investigation fees and other expenses. He will go to court for his criminal charges.

What the hell happened to kids getting drunk, high, laid, and PROTESTING guns. I wish I could say these types of things only happened in places far, far away, like the entire middle of the US or something, but it’s not. It’s everywhere. Hell, we’re the hippy state and we have to worry about this?

You are right to be alarmed, frightened, at the level of personal disintegration going on that then explodes in our midst. Even if it never does so in a mall, it happens at a one-to-one level: the poor woman raped in San Juan Capistrano after her car spun out on the freeway and she was calling for help. From the heart proceeds all uncleaness. Nothing happens in a vacuum, so the question is, what are the foundations of this insanity - the hippy state?
