Continuing my love-affair with Asian cuisine, I present to you this wonderful little gem, nestled in the middle of Little Armenia.
Located on Santa Monica Blvd, at the corner of Edgemont, the place doesn’t look like much. It’s in a shabby strip mall at a shabby intersection.
But tucked inside is a very cute little decor, and an incredibly friendly staff. The owner is always present, and is warm and welcoming.I’m far from an expert on Middle Eastern cuisine, although I’ve had enough Zankou to know what’s good.
Everything tastes fresh here, everything is nicely prepared, the chicken never overcooked, the lamb isn’t gamy, the pita is generally fresh out of the oven and exceptionally tasty. It’s a consistently enjoyable experience. There are probably better places out there, but for the price and the friendliness, I just really like this place.
In comparison, it blows Zankou out of the water in terms of freshness. And while it’s not exactly the same thing as Greek food, I’d say it’s comparable to Papa Kristos, if a little tastier and more pleasant of an experience.
Dinner there is slightly more expensive, bordering on a little too much, but for lunch, it’s always mellow and always good.
