I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say it: I don’t get it.
I’d been hearing about this place for years before even moving here. The Zagat people are practically beating off to their menu. And yet, somehow, I completely miss the point.
Ok, I should start off by saying I’ve only ever gotten take-out, and never actually dined there, so take this post with a grain of salt. But still.
I had always heard such great thing about their pizza, and the first several times I ordered take-out from there, I even convinced myself I liked it.
But here’s the thing: I don’t.
I was pleasantly surprised they offered “Sicilian Style Deep Dish,” which is something I’m partial to.
But my main issue with this place, aside from their inability to ever give me an accurate estimate on how long ’til it’s ready, is the complete and total lack of any tomato sauce whatsoever. It’s like an open-face grilled cheese sandwich.
I’m fully aware of “authentic” Italian pizza, how the crust is super thin and the condiments minimal in quantity. But if you’re serving up Yank-style cheese pies, with thick crust and loads of toppings, for the love of god give me some tomato sauce! Dough and cheese do not a pizza make.
I’ve gotten both the deep dish and the regular style, and three times now they have actually omitted the tomato sauce altogether. And this is despite asking for EXTRA sauce one time. And at $17 for a “large” (enough for 1 person) and $2-3 per topping, you’d think they could spring for some.
They need to take a page or two from their neighbor down the street and figure their shit out.
Perhaps I should heed the advice of those better informed than me and just try something else there, because I have yet to have a satisfying pizza experience from them.

If you went to Prizzi’s and didn’t get the breadsticks then you didn’t go to… GET THE BREADSTICKS!!
