Not only did Isiah Thomas embarrass the NBA and all of New York with the sex scandal, but he also gave us this gem that solidified his status as a mildly retarded mental patient in waiting.
“If there’s one thing that I hope all of you know about me or will learn about me, I’ll fight until I die. It’s not about giving up or quitting. To me, it’s win or die. And I literally mean death, I don’t mean walk away, I mean death. And that’s how I approach it.”
That’s kind of like getting a lecture on nutrition from an obese man while he downs a dozen crème filled donuts. He literally means death people. Dying. Ending your time in this world…because of losing. So a perpetual loser believes that if you can’t win you should die. What a combo. What’s the timeframe here? Is there a cutoff? Somehow, despite all the non-winning Isiah is still alive and smiling impishly at everyone, including his co-workers (wink wink). Thank goodness it only took a paltry 11 million dollars for that one to go away.
So how does Isiah still have a job? What does James Dolan know that we don’t? Here’s a brief list of possibilities.
1. He saved James Dolan’s life.
2. He saved one of his children’s life.
That’s it…that’s the list. It has to be.
We haven’t even taken into account his prowess as a GM. Almost every move Isiah has made has resulted in failure, but his greatest mistake has to be the acquisition of Eddy Curry. Did anybody who has a YMCA understanding of the game of basketball believe Eddy Curry was going to save the Knicks? Isiah did…although recently it seems he’s realized his mistake by dumping on Curry to the press. We will give him credit for drafting David Lee, maybe the only good move he’s made during his New York tenure, but clearly that’s not enough…at least it shouldn’t be.
If you’re a New York fan first of all don’t admit to it, but second, just revel in this thing because every night Isiah remains coach of the Knicks something unintentionally funny is going to happen. You’ll get back to the NBA at some point, but for now embrace the greatest of all reality shows and be thankful Isiah is hosting. Also look forward to Isiah’s dark secrets being revealed at some point, probably when he’s finally canned. Stephon Marbury referenced them earlier in the season (while its tough to listen to someone who has about as much credibility pull as Paul Walker’s acting coach) when he was talking about Isiah Thomas. My pick for Worst Sportsman of 2007. So I’m gonna take Marbury’s word for it and remain giddy with anticipation.

good stuff. took a tired story and made a good point - it really is something that is so bad that it’s basically great. to be honest, i will never get tired of following the Thomas debacle. what a psychotic fool.
