A Safe Sane New Years Eve

December 31st, 2007 Written by: Jeff Barrick· 1 Comment

As 2008 is bearing down on us, many decisions must be made about how and where you’ll be celebrating the New Year. In the past you probably purchased a way over priced ticket to some massive, New Years, concert extravaganza, that half way through you wished you were somewhere else, most likely with someone else.

You made sure all the “Party Favors” had been picked up and accounted for, and your favorite outfit is clean and ready for the night’s festivities. I love to party with the best of them, but I also keep my wits about me, and I never do too much of anything, because who knows where you’ll end up.

I know this is going to sound like a bummer, but more alcohol and drug related deaths and arrests occur on the turn over from last year to this year, this is why I suggest you do everything you can to have the time of your life, but also do all you can to make sure you and your friends get home okay.

Mock AccidentThere is no need to end up a sad holiday cliché, most likely you will survive the crash, but a sweet family of 5 coming home from Disneyland are going to get wasted by your death mobile. Wherever you go have a blast, but stay the night if you’ve been drinking, and if you’re at some giant public event, then make sure to dance up a storm so you can sweat all that booze out of your system. Also there is no shame in calling a cab or just waiting out your drunk.

With the multitude of possible events to partake of, I don’t think it’s out of line to ask that you take an extra few minutes and figure in a safe exit strategy. In the end you’ll thank me because I know people who didn’t make it home that night, or did, but were never the same again.

Happy New Year If I may make a suggestion, forget about some concert, keep it local and low key. Find a group of folks that you love to be with, and post up with them all night. Maybe sometime around 11:30 PM scope out a significant other so you can swap kisses as the bells toll out. You may not see any Celebs, and your party might not be thrown by Paris Hilton, but it’s your party, and your place, if you make it your own than nobody can say shit. The bottom-line is FUN, just as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else. See ya in 08.

I just stick with going to the movies. This year’s choice: National Treasure - Book of Secrets. I was kind of wondering what ever happened to Ed Harris. Then he showed up in this piece. The other I do is actually something I’ve been doing since I was six and that is watching Dick Clark on NYE.
