OK kids, it’s t-minus one month before Super Duper Tuesday, aka CA’s primary election. The Iowans may have had their fun last night piling into high school gyms and farmhouses in the freezing cold. But on February 5th, it’s up to us to show the rest of the country just how we roll.
Got questions about what you need to participate in all of the fun that is the presidential primary process (gotta love that alliteration)? Here are a few simple answers:
- When is the election? Tuesday, February 5th
- Don’t I have to be registered? Yup, you sure do. Voter registration deadline is Tuesday, January 22nd.
- But how do I register? Just fill in this application (link to: www.sos.ca.gov) by Tuesday, January 22nd. You can also pick up a voter registration form at most post offices.
- Who can I vote for? Well, that depends on what party your are affiliated with - Democrat, Republican, Independent, Green…you name it. But here’s a little breakdown of the two main parties for y’all.
Democrats
- Barack Obama - He just won in Iowa by 8 points, people find him inspiring and charismatic…he hopes enough for you to vote for him on Feb 5th.
- John Edwards came in 2nd in Iowa by 1% above Hillary. He may get $400 haircuts, but he sure knows what he’s doing on this second time out of the box. The question is, do you really want to give him a second chance?
- Hillary Clinton may have had a tough blow last night, but it sure ain’t over yet. You could turn it all around with just the push of a button (or the pull of a lever, shading of a bubble or punch of card…just watch out for those hanging chads!)
- Bill Richardson of New Mexico came in 4th place. Not a strong 4th with about 2%, but definitely a good positioning for one of the “underdog” candidates. He’s still in it, unlike Chris Dodd and Joe Biden…and you can help keep in him it.
- Mike Gravel. What can I say. The dude is from Alaska, he makes awesome YouTube videos and he just won’t go away. (link to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0S2zkh6ZOGE )
- Dennis Kucinich has a young wife who wears amazing hats, was visited by aliens and is loved by progressives all over the country. Can you imagine what he could do with access to the space shuttle?
Republicans
- Mike Huckabee came outta fricken nowhere to win in Iowa last night by 9% over Mitt Romney. Known for his bible loving and huge weightloss, he sure threw a wrench into the GOP’s primary line up. Will you keep his freak streak going strong?
- Mitt Romney got the “silver” last night with 13% and is looking to improve his performance in the next few heats. CA may not be the most comfortable terrain for this Mormon son, but you’re still free to welcome him with open arms…or your vote.
- Fred Thompson was your D.A. on “Law and Order” and now he wants to be your President. Many have doubts about his bid and how much longer he’ll stick it out. At least he’s got another career to fall back on if you decide not to vote for him.
- John McCain. This man has been around the block, really around the globe, and isn’t giving up anytime soon. Some say he’s got the most to gain, others thinks he’s already gone to far. You?
- Ron Paul Revolution has arrived. With spray paint, creative canvassers and a 19 million in the bank, this guy has given grassroots politicking a run for its money…errr, organizing. He may not be allowed in Saturday night’s debate, but you can vote him into the big house on Feb 5th.
- Rudy Guiliani didn’t go to Iowa and is hoping it won’t bite him in the buns. He’s the 9-11 candidate and he won’t soon let you forget it. He’s currently scrambling a bit, and hoping you’ll help him whip up a few votes from CA.
- Duncan Hunter is from California, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you know him. He’s not going to keep his Congressional seat, so if you don’t vote for him, he might be out of a job in November.
