- Pulp Fiction screenwriter Roger Avary was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, DUI after a fatal crash - Avary, was the driver of a single car accident, shortly after midnight Sunday. Andreas Zini, 34 was killed in the accident, an italian resident said to be visiting Avary and his wife. Avary’s wife Gretchen, 40, was ejected from the car and found in the road by authorities, she is hospitalized and in stable condition. Avary was booked but later released on $50,000 bail. Avary won an Academy Award along with Quentin Tarantino for writing “Pulp Fiction”.
- A man has died after falling several stories at the Hollywood and Highland center - Roger Zidowsky, 39, of Valencia lost his balance while attempting to slide down the banister of an escalator. The victim’s friends told officials that Roger Zidowsky “had been drinking quite a bit”.
- A man was injured after being slashed in the throat and set on Fire - The victim, a man in his 40’s or 50’s and was slashed in the throat, doused with a flammable liquid and set alight. The injuries were inflicted in a fight at West 86th Place and Main street around 10pm on Sunday 1/14/07, the assailant fled on foot with no description being available. The victim is recovering at the California Medical Center and is expected to survive.
- Arrests made in Sylmar Homicide - Two alleged members of a Van Nuys gang were arrested in connection with the weekend death of a 45 year old man in a Sylmar motel room in a possible robbery gone bad. Armando, 23, and unidentified 17 year old male were arrested in connection with the death of Jose Eugenio Carrillo. Carrillo’s body was found asphyxiated at 9.30am at the Country Side Inn, at 14955 Roxford Street, in Sylmar.
- 5 dead in Russian kidnap ring - Petro Krylov, 35, was part of a kidnapping ring that targeted Russian business families in Los Angeles to extort money from. The victims were killed regardless of whether the ransoms were paid. Last year two other men, Krylov’s accomplices, Louri Mikhel and Jurijus Kadamovas, were also sentenced to death. The kidnapping plan resulted in the deaths of five people and 1.2 million in ransom collected. Krylov was sentenced to four consecutive life terms on Friday, 1/11/08.
