take your grandma to dusty’sAs a brunch type of gal and because I was sick of Brite Spot (Dear B.S, No offense! I still heart you. Really. xoxo, Kendra), I had a moment of pure joy when Dusty’s opened in Silver Lake.

Not only is the food great, but it’s cute enough and swanky enough to take your grandmother to.

Which I did.

Well, not my grandma, but my husband’s.

On Saturday morning, I was faced with the nerve-wracking task of finding a place to take the grand in-laws and the in-laws to eat. Because I did not think they’d appreciate dining al fresco with a graffiti view, a la Millie’s, and because I though Brite Spot would scare them (Again, B.S., nothing but love here. Call me.), Dusty’s it was.

Grandma split an eggs benedict with grandfather and they pronounced it yum. All was right with the world and we lived to fight another day.

Dusty’s is technically a French place but don’t let that intimidate you. It’s all the good things about French restaurants and none of the bad. You know, they serve crepes and croque monsieurs but you can actually get your check when you want it. The coffee is just super and they also have a mimosa menu. You should order the quiche if it’s your first trip there, because that’s their thang. The quiche of the day is usually your best bet but the spinach and feta is quite delightful.

If you’re too cool for quiche, the Eggs Chasseur is a crazy good dish, very hearty, with baked eggs and this mushroom sauce that just makes my mouth happy in a way that Brite Spot never did. (That I’m not taking back, B.S. You know it’s true).

If you need something sweet, the strawberry/banana crepes and the French toast are no joke. Frankly, I’ve tried most of the menu and the only items I’d advise against are the Eggs Florentine (meh) and the Blueberry Mimosa (not bad, just boring.)

If you get to there before 10:30 am on the weekend, you probably won’t have to wait. It’s good for big parties and they take reservations. Yay! Park across the street and walk because the valet is a rip off. Yeah, valet, I said it. $4.50? Seriously? At least Brite Spot has a parking lot…..
