Guy Dill
New Sculpture and Wall Panels
January 19 – March 1, 2008
Breakfast with the Artist: Saturday, January 26, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Guy Dill’s exploration of scale, form and highly charged bronze patinas are always primary as well as a continued process oriented approach to making sculpture.
The aluminum sculptures are machined to a light absorbing surface behaving as a counterpoint to the new bronze works. Welds and connections are often left exposed to de-mystify the building process of sculpture making.
Also on exhibition for the first time will be Guy Dill’s aluminum wall panels measuring 4 feet wide and up to 8 feet in height. This new body of work continues Guy Dill’s exploration of abstraction utilizing the wall plane as both a framework and image enunciator. The slight thickness of these aluminum panels allows a unique type of machine drawing to emerge. As a material conscious sculptor Guy Dill utilizes the forms that emerge from the panels to fabricate the 3-D works.
These new wall works engage the viewer in a visual puzzle of wall panel to sculpture, wherein a direct correlation cannot always be achieved but is nonetheless engaging.
