I’ve already talked about nature and shopping in a previous post. Alas, here it is again. This time, not in the form of a thrift store, but a higher end (aka over my budget at the current time) jewelry line. The creator and namesake is Melinda Maria, who works out of her office in sunny Santa Monica creating one-of-a-kind pieces. The sun and free-flowing atmosphere of the area must be an influence in her pieces, because they’re generally very natural and un-structured, the bracelets seeming to flow around, rather than enchain the wrist, the hammered rings seeming to meld into the finger like a second skin. Simple and earthy, but glamorous and girly at the same time, her jewelry line has what it takes to be a success, and success seems to be coming her way.
Already featured on numerous celebrities and in magazines like InStyle, she seems to be growing very rapidly in popularity. Especially with me. Although for me, it’d without doubt be a special purchase. But I don’t doubt one bit that the prices are definitely worth it. In Los Angeles, trends pop up everywhere and on everyone all at once it seems, so it’s refreshing to see some pieces that couldn’t be found in just any boutique. In fact, you’ll have to make your way to Fred Segal (either in Santa Monica or Los Angeles, on Melrose) if you want to snatch a ring or two. If not, her website is comprehensive, with a cute bio and everything.
I love that Melinda seems to take directly from nature, in designing her jewelry, making it timeless, unpretentious and most definitely far from gaudy. It’s also fairly ageless: I could see giving my mom a piece, but borrowing it from her constantly (One of my bad habits. Sorry Mom, you dress, like, actually cute. So don’t you want to share your things with me? Most of the time, she doesn’t.) Anyway, point is, Melinda’s line seems to reach all. Oh, and speaking of reaching (out), she’s very involved in charity, as described on her site. Another plus. And gee whiz: nature, sparkly gold things, charity, rhinestones? I love it!
