- Man Accused of Shooting his Girlfriend - A 23-year-old man Michael Bekele shot his girlfriend whose name has not been released, in the leg yesterday at 10:30am at the 20900 block of Gresham Street. The shooting was apparently over an argument the couple was having. Bekele has been arrested and booked for attempted murder, and his girlfriend has been been to the hospital in stable condition.
- Athorities are Asking Help to Find a Hit-and-Run Killer - Police have been unable to fine the hit-and-run driving that killed JOhn Kerns, 49, in Echo Park on New Year’s Day. The accident occurred at Sunset and Mohawk Street at about 1p.m on January 1st. The force of the collision sent Kerns through the plate glass of a building. The driver got out of his vehicle and walked away from the scene. Anyone who knows anything is urged to call the police.
- Man in Scrubs Throws Baby Over Side of Freeway - Not in LA, but worth coverage. A man in hospital scrubs threw a 2 year old toddler over a freeway overpass. Witnesses saw the man walk up to bridge, with the baby under one arm, while smoking a cigarette, then toss it into the air, where it fell and was hit by passing vehicles, and then he simply walked away without a word. The incident caused panic in the city as many parents rushed to pick up their children from day care centers, no child has been reported missing from anywhere. The case is still a bit of a mystery. The psychiatric wards have stated that no one is missing. The man, who has not been named, told police that he occasionally baby-sat kids. He was seen rocking back and forth in back of the police car and screamed “Thank you for everything” to television crews as he was escorted to a cell block.
- 4 Killed in Tijuana Shooting - Again, not quite LA, but definitely very well-known to most LAers. There was a shooting at a Tijuana with police left four people injured and forced a school to have the evacuate. The situation was out of control and they had to call the army in for assistance. The shootout came days after gunmen had shot and killed two Tijuana police officers, as well as the district commanders wife and 12 year old daughter. There appear to be related incidents and out of control.
- Anti- Semitic Graffiti in LA - There was Anti-Semitic graffiti, including swastikas and hateful writing discovered all over a 2 mile range yesterday morning in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood in Tarzana. Police do no believe that they were being targeted, although Councilman Dennis Zine has stated that “this is unusual. They obviously wanted to send a message of fear to the residents of this community.” Members of the neighborhood are shaken and scared, even after all of the graffiti has been painted over. LA City Council has stated that there is a $50,000 to $75,000 award for any information leading to an arrest.
