WGA Negotiations Begin - Could there be an Actual End?

striking squirrel-08-01-22 picThe WGA leaders have began informal negotiations with certain studio moguls to try and start coming to an agreement. They are attempting to mimic the DGA deal, by trying to lay down firm ground work before they start any formal negotiations.

Everyone is hoping that this will be resolved by Feb 26th, for the Oscars ceremony, since SAG Executive Director Doug Allen, said that the actors will not cross the WGA picket lines to attend the event. Even the most optimistic are hoping that the strike will be over in two weeks, so it is still unclear who will be attending. But the WGA is refusing to be rushed into a solution for the sake of an awards show.

“The rush to anoint this agreement as the `solution’ for the industry is premature,” Allen said in remarks reported by Daily Variety.

WGA West President Patric Verrone and Executive Director David Young,
Walt Disney Co. CEO Robert Iger and CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves also are expected to be involved, according to Daily Variety.

Neither side confirmed the timing of the get-together, and both maintained no-comment responses Monday. But optimists see the lack of polarizing rhetoric — previously employed with vigor — as a sign that both the guild and the major studios want to give the informal talks a chance to succeed, according to Daily Variety.
