The autopsy on Heath Ledger is inconclusive at this point. A medical examiner has stated that the cause-of-death will take 10-14 days to find out. The problem is most likely pills, but whether is was intentional or not is unknown. Apparently the actor was having trouble sleeping and was taking sleeping pills, ambien has been mentioned, but not confirmed. So far it looks more like an accidental death than a suicide.
There is also a story pending from different places stating that he was suffering from pneumonia at his time of death. I am unsure if this is true, but apparently he was found in Mary-Kate Olsen’s apartment and recently friends had said he was extremely depressed. Days early he was on set shooting a film in London and had just returned to New York.
A message from Kim, Ledger’s father:
We, Heath’s family, confirm, the very tragic, untimely and accidental passing of our dearly loved son, brother and doting father of Matilda. He was found peacefully asleep in his New York apartment by his housekeeper at 3:30 p.m. U.S. time.
We would like to thank our friends and everyone around the world for their well wishes and kind thoughts at this time. Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life but few had the pleasure of truly knowing him.
He was a down to earth, generous, kind-hearted, life-loving and selfless individual who was extremely inspirational to many. Please now respect our family’s need to grieve and come to terms with our loss privately.
