Connect to your inner earth woman/man on a Twilight Hike in the Santa Monica mountains.

SMMountains08-02-3I am so excHIKEted for this post!

K. Sticking the word hike in there didn’t look as cool as I thought. But that’s alright, because no one will care how cool you look, or how nice you’re dressed, when you go on a hike! Nature, clean air (well, relatively, compared to the Valley I suppose), dirt, the earth, and hiking, that’s all that matters. And in this case, the moon! And stars! Because if you go on a Twilight Hike through the Santa Monica mountains, you will, yes, be hiking in the twilight. How eerie and mystical!

Every Friday at 6:30 in the evening, a mixed group of “of all ages and backgrounds” begins a hike into the stunning mountains of Santa Monica. This has to be gorgeous. Has anyone been into the mountains? Any comments or stories?

They must be wonderful. I mean, all I was doing was walking along Arizona to my internship today, by the little houses and a friggin’ post office, and I thought THAT was totally beautiful, serene and green. And that was a residential street. Not the mountains. Shows how living in Los Angeles changes your concept of nature. Anyway, so if Arizona Avenue is a refresher compared to Wilshire Boulevard, then imagine what standing up high on a mountain will be compared to waiting at the crosswalk at Sawtelle Avenue. Totally cleansing and free and earthy and wonderful, man!

Hopefully one of these hikes will compliment my newfound connection to the earth and search for peace, nature and wellbeing. Or maybe it will just be a little workout for the day. According to a post on calendarlive.com, a Twilight Hike is generally of “moderate intensity and could definitely qualify as a workout.” Cool! So slide on your Reeboks. And don’t forget to double-knot. Don’t want anyone tripping over a stone. Grab a bottle of water and your faithful hiking stick and head on over to the Stoner Recreation Center.

Luckily for us Los Angeles dwellers, the center is actually located in Westwood, not Santa Monica.

So, the plan of action: After you have your hiking shoes on and your canteen slung over your shoulder, meet at 1835 Stoner Ave in Westwood. Every Friday at 6:30 PM. (According to the description I read, hikers congregate at the east end of the center’s parking lot.)

If you have any further questions (although I don’t know how much simpler meeting and hiking could get), call the center at 310-479-7200.

Oh, how could I forget the little plus: these outdoorsy folk often hop inside to get dinner after. Sounds much nicer to me than sitting on a jagged rock in the freezing wind, chewing on a Clif bar. Food, fitness, nature, and new people! I’d love it. Hopefully you will too.

But JEEZ Louise it is cold outside right now! Okay, but think positively. Just think how warm you’ll get after a few hill climbs.

So come on, pull out those mesh shorts and your sweatband and get hiking!

Visit their website for more (if there is any) information.
