I’ve always been a burrito girl myself, but I decided to initiate myself into the taco lifestyle by hitting up some of the most celebrated taco trucks in Los Angeles. The result: a satisfied stomach full of the best carne asada tacos that $1.50 (or less) can buy, and the sad realization that my road towards becoming a taco connoisseur would be significantly longer than expected (hey, a girl can only eat so many tacos in a day)… but I’m up for the challenge! Here are a few stops on my adventure.
El Carnal No2. Alameda and the 10 freeway.
El Gavilan. Slauson off the 110 freeway.
I believe this guys vivacious demeanor can be partially attributed to the wondrous concoction in his hands…HORCHATA!
No place to sit? Thats cool. Tacos were meant to be eaten on the go!
Whittier Blvd off the 710 freeway.
Not a taco truck, but you can’t miss the chipper chicken logo of Tacos El Gavilan that graces many a taco truck. Stop by the mother ship for some truly delish tacos…and more! @ 1900 S Central Ave.
I can assume they expect quite a crowd with an indoor eating area fit for hundreds of hungry taco consumers.
How do you like yours? Lots of lime juice? Or how about pico de gallo? Salsa- hot, mild, or medium? These tubs give power back to the people…at least when it comes to their taco toppings.

If you’re going to become a taco specialist, you’ve gotta read The Great Taco Hunt (tacohunt.blogspot.com). Hasn’t been updated in several months, but the guy has eaten at and rated virtually every taco truck in LA. He’s pretty snobby about his tacos, and its funny.
