McCain pulls ahead of Republican party making him the clear victor, while the two democratic candidates are still duking it out.

Both Democratic candidates won enough states and enough delegates to declare victory for themselves. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama fought back and forth all day yesterday and the battle still continues after the biggest day of balloting in presidentail history. The two won nearly the same amount of states. Obama won 12 and Clinton won 10 including the the grand prize California.

Clinton won big with New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts, and she also won Arizona, Oklahoma, Tennessee, American Samoa and Arkansas (where Bill was raised). Her Californian win was supported by a huge percentage of Latino voters who made up 30% of the votes. She also won half of the Democratic voters and about 25% of voters who wanted experience.

Obama won big in the Midwest and his home state of Illinois along with Minnesota, North Dakota, Kansas, Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Georgia and Utah. Missouri was to close to call for some time but has now been given to Obama. He also received 4 in 10 of women voters, 8 in 10 African Americans, 7 in 10 who wanted change, and the majority of younger voters (under 44) and those concerned with Iraq.
Both candidates will still continue their campaingn and will move on to contests on Saturday in Louisiana, Nebraska and Washington state, Sunday in Maine, and Tuesday in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Many of us were hoping for an answer, but we may be far from one. Their competition will continue into March and most likely beyond, until one of them wins 2025 out of the 4,049 delegates. The returns from the CNN.com show that Clinton has 783 delegates and Obama had 709.

Both parties congratulated one another last night.

Speaking in soft, even tones — possibly to spare her strained vocal cords — Clinton acknowledged Tuesday night that the results were far from decisive. “I want to congratulate Sen. Obama for his victory tonight, and I look forward to continuing our campaign and our debates about how to leave this country better off for the next generation,” Clinton told an ebullient crowd packed into a ballroom in Midtown Manhattan.

Obama returned the favor in an election-night appearance in Chicago, congratulating Clinton on her performance and praising her for “running an outstanding campaign.”

But, he went on, “we have to choose between change and more of the same. We have to choose between looking backward and looking forward. We have to choose between our future and our past.”- NYTimes.com
