What do we have today? Oh LA! You may have fallen victim to crappy polls but at least you know how to protect your beaches! With the recent primary elections, Romney has decided to drop out of the competition, in order to keep Hillary from winning, although it appears the ladies and the Latinos seem to be caring her along. And taking it out of the country, there is also more information on the assassination of Bhutto and Amy Winehouse will not be allowed in the country for the Grammy’s. Maybe that’ll keep the kiddies from adapting a serious drug habit…no? Oh well.
- Environmentalists win! Panel rules against road through San Onofre State Beach (featured): “The California Coastal Commission handed environmentalists a major victory and rejected the pleas of motorists Wednesday, voting down plans to build a six-lane toll road through San Onofre State Beach.”
- Romney ends his campaign for Presidency today: “If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I’d forestall the launch of a national campaign and, frankly, I’d be making it possible for Sens. [Hillary Rodham] Clinton or [Barack] Obama to win,” said Romney in an appearance before CPAC.
- (Not LA but hey…) Two more arrested in connection to the with assassination of Bhutto - “Interior Ministry spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema said the two men were arrested in Rawalpindi where Bhutto died in a gun and bomb attack on Dec. 27. He identified them only by the single names Rafaqat and Husnain, and provided no details on their role in the attack that also killed 20 other people.”
- Amy Winehouse will not be able to sing at the Grammy’s because her US Visa was denied, most likely due to her party habits. “Since the album’s U.S. release last year, she has canceled a slew of appearances amid reports of drug use. Her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is accused of attacking a pub landlord and later conspiring with the landlord to have him withdraw as a witness at the trial…The statement didn’t say why her application was rejected. The U.S. Embassy in London declined to comment late Thursday.” Maybe next year Winehouse!
- Hillary won California for two reasons, women and Latinos: “The campaign put up a fierce fight for women who vote by mail, calling and re-calling until they turned in their ballots. And then Clinton’s aides aimed their organizational firepower at the Latino community. The efforts paid off. Women backed Clinton 59% to 36%… Latinos went for Clinton by a 2-1 margin. What made that margin even more significant was that Latinos made up a record proportion of the electorate.”
- LA County Registrar investigates problems with Independent ballots - “Spurred by confusion over Tuesday’s voting, acting Los Angeles County Registrar Dean Logan said Wednesday that his office will examine more than 94,000 ballots cast by nonpartisan voters to determine how many votes for presidential candidates may have gone uncounted. Logan said he also will try to determine whether the uncounted ballots would make a difference in the way delegates are apportioned between the Democratic presidential candidates and, if so, will seek legal approval to count as many as possible.”
