In’s and Out’s of West Hollywood: Best Sex Shops To Spice Up Your Valentines Day

February 8th, 2008 Written by: Alisa· No Comments

Sexy Woman by Comando NenucoThis is my way to introduce a weekly “Ins and Abouts” West Hollywood column, which will highlight (or not) places to see (or not to) in West Hollywood – the home to me and my Scotish Fold.

There is nothing like a sexy “after-party” with your Valentine - be it a girlfriend, a wife, or a friend with benefits – it’s all good (no one said you should be alone on the Valentine’s.) After you are done with the romantic dinner, gazing into each other’s eyes, feeding each other chocolate “hearts” and discussing the next “step” of the relationship, I say, move on to sexy action (unless it’s first date and you have your three-week “policy.”)

Romantic dinner is not sexy. Yes, it’s romantic, but it is not sexy. For sexy, look beyond your Nine West pumps and 7 For All Man kind jeans. And I’m going to tell you where to look. Choose between very “adult shopping” to “Money Not an Issue” sensual boutiques. West Hollywood has it all and more. But first, I’d like to share a prehistory of LA sexy shopping.

LA is a walking sex machine, a sex power house – it’s the “UN office” of sex. And this revolution transformed our sex shopping behavior and maximized our taste in sex toys and clothes. We not only shop for sensual items, but we consider the very nature of the products. No more cheap plastic and rubber toys; they are now stored next to our Mac 6100 in the attic. We now have a choice of soft silicone, metal, glass and other natural materials. Everything now smells and tastes nice – just like Bath & Body Works’ body lotions and mists!

The lubricants and pink rabbits are not tacky anymore, you can easily bring your Valentine to the store today. There are no more men standing outside the store in bright yellow trench coat and there are no more women in faux leather over-knee boots trying on purple wigs. The stores are now designed with exquisite taste, for customers with excellent kinky idea of a sexy loving. Moreover, in those places, the staff is so knowledgeable and helpful that they make me proud my home town.

Pre-Valentine’s shopping has never been a better time to shop sexy. And West Hollywood is the place to be for that, from a fetish item to a sexy book – you can find absolutely everything and more. Whatever shop you visit here, be proud for putting your sexuality out there. Be especially proud that you are doing it for a special someone. And if you are still not sure if your mama and papa would approve your after-hour shopping at a sex shop, there is always online shopping – in your own room, at your own discretion. I just love Larry G. Roberts, one of the people who invented the internet 1969, because of him, 40 years later we can buy Hitachi Magic Wand and PureBliss Personal Massager online!)

My top 10 Must-Do Sex Shops in West Hollywood (your Valentine will be happy, whether this sexy item will be on you…or wrapped up for him or her.)

ADULT TOYS STORES (or what I call – my bed time “teddy bears”)

  • Pleasure Chest - It’s been around for more than 35 years – I’d guess it has seen the likes of Ann-Margaret, Lauren Bacall, Jane Fonda and Ali MacGraw. Located at 7733 Santa Monica Blvd.
  • Le Sex Shoppe/Romantix - All I can say is… Oh Là Là… Located at 6315 ½ Hollywood Blvd.
  • A Touch of Romance - A sensual, non-sexual, name to ease your date into checking it out. Located at 6650 Hollywood Blvd.
  • Babeland - This one comes from New York, so I won’t call it a “true” Hollywood invention, nevertheless, with its rich history and award-winning reputation, it can’t be all that bad. Located at 7007 Melrose Ave.
  • Drake’s - Their specialty – adult video classic. Not my favorite thing. I’ll stick to my Emmanuelle. Located at 7566 Melrose Ave 8932 Santa Monica Blvd.
  • Forplay - Club-wear and Boots – whatever makes you groove, baby! Located at 6434 Hollywood Blvd.
  • Hustler Hollywood - not only it is a true Hollywood sex shopping experience, but they also make good espresso – the Hustler style, with a whole lot of whipped cream. Located at 8920 Sunset Blvd.
  • 665 - There is nothing like a good spank on a Valentine’s night. Not a “sick” spank, but a sexy “feathery” spank. Located at 8722 Santa Monica Blvd.
  • Unicorn Alley - Caters to all sexual orientation. I just like to educate myself about other than my orientation once in a while. And nothing is wrong with it, right? My gay friends would understand me. Located at 8940 Santa Monica Blvd.
  • Syren - This place is all about latex – latex clothing, latex fashion and they do customization. You can trust a place that produced costumes for Batman and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Meow! Located at 7225 Beverly Blvd.
