Roy Scheider died today at the age of 75 in Little Rock Arkansas, where he was being treated for multiple myeloma, a plasma cell cancer. Scheider was probably best known for his starring role in Jaws and later Jaws II, but also well known for his roles in French Connections, All that Jazz, Marathon Man, and many more. He was nominated for best supporting actor in 1972 for the French Connection and for best actor in 1979.
Scheider’s Jaws co-star Richard Dreyfuss said: “He was a wonderful guy. He was what I call a knockaround actor.
“A knockaround actor to me is a compliment that means a professional that lives the life of a professional actor and doesn’t yell and scream at the fates and does his job and does it as well as he can.
