Tomorrow, February 14, is not just Valentine’s Day but also the second Thursday of the month. Do you know what that means? Downtown Art Walk!

Big Al - downtown art walk - Crewest counterAll of the galleries will be showing love-themed (sort of) work in Valentine’s themed exhibits. Remember these are artists, so don’t expect many warm fuzzies, but do expect loads of creativity.

One such show can be found at Crewest on Winston (Winston is between 4th and 5th) between Main and Los Angeles. Crewest is a graffiti art gallery, and their Vday show, Fatally Yours, is the brainchild of former intern Delae. Together, Delae and Man One (co-owner, graffiti artist) curated a rockin’ strong show.

Artists from around the world, both repeat and new exhibitors, have shipped pieces to Crewest to participate. Just a few in the lineup are:
U.S.Dolla’ (Florida), Melon (Chicago), Surge (San Diego), Kuaze One (Midwest)

Australia
Gimiks, Dabs & Myla (a boyfriend/girlfriend team), Seekayem, and Dvate

You’ll get to see the work of a 16 year old kid in his first exhibit and that of Chas Bojorquez whose work is in the Smithsonian. The variety is well planned. If you are planning to attend this month’s Downtown Art Walk (free), be sure to check out Fatally Yours at Crewest. At 8pm, the crowd will be treated to live musical performance by MEZKLAH.

If you can’t make it to Art Walk tomorrow, Fatally Yours runs until March 2. The closing reception will be held on March 1st from 6-9pm.Trust me. Make a plan to get over there.

BTW, Man One was kind enough to sit down with me on Monday and let me interrogate him for several hours. He is a brilliant man with a fascinating history. Be sure to check out the resulting story in my weekly series Red Hand/White Man this Friday (Feb 15).
