- The teen from yesterdays shooting at Oxnard Junior High has died - Lawrence King, 15, was rushed to St. John’s Regional Medical Center yesterday after he was shot in the head in front of his class. Last night authorities said he was getting better and was able to speak. But he died today at 2:30pm of unknown complications.
- Torrance man gets 25-life for murdering his step-father - Ashton Hurst, was convicted on Dec, 14th of first-degree murder. He stabbed his step-father, Robert Gauci, 44, to death because Gauci had told Hurst that he didn’t want him to live there anymore. Today he was sentenced to 25 years to life.
- Suspect arrested in the shooting of two teenagers - Long Beach police arrested several suspects yesterday for the shooting and killing of Breon Taylor, 15, and Dennis Moses, 17, on Jan. 19. The shooting happened at a birthday party at the 5900 clock of Parkcrest Street at 10:30pm for unknown reasons.
- L.A. pounds face liability charges for cruelty to animals - Although it is known that pounds are not the best places fore animals, many of them are not living up to their basic needs. Animals are living in disgusting conditions, are not well maintained and last year “the county system took in 85,975 animals… In the same year, the county euthanized 16,989 dogs, 26,384 cats and 9,429 other animals” many before their mandatory 4-day waiting period was up.
- Former UCLA athlete diagnosed with cancer - Kenechi Udeze, 24, who was a first-round draft pick out of Southern California in 2004, has recently been diagnosed with leukemia in a hospital in Twin Cities. No specific information has been releases about Udeze’s current condition.
- 7-year old thinks parents are dead when really they’re doped up - The young girl was helped out of her locked motor home through the window by neighbors after she began screaming that her mother was dead. Police arrived on the scene to find Angela Cleveland, 29, intoxicated. She said that she and her boyfriend had taken methamphetamines and engaged in bondage. The two have been taken into custody for child neglect and possession of methamphetamine.
- Man who was shot at Jefferson Park identified - Craig Michael Cooper, 53, dies at the hospital after being shot at 10:30pm the other night. Cooper was walking on the sidewalk when a vehicle pulled up and shot him. No arrests have been made.
- Fatal crash on 10 Freeway due to drunk driver - A 20-year-old unidentified woman was killed at 2am when she lost control of her SUV and it flipped over. The vehicle crashed near Alameda St. No other vehicles were involved. The passenger survived with minor injuries.
