You know those nights where you want to go out, but don’t feel like dealing with a cover charge and lines and tons of people making it impossible to get from one side of the bar to another? The Dime, located on Fairfax between Melrose and 3rd, is the perfect place for a relatively low key night, but it also has the spark and lively atmosphere to bolster your spirits. The crowd ranges from early twenties to late thirties, but once everyone starts boozing and socializing, age matters little in what is actually a pretty small place. No, The Dime is not known for its spacious interior, but its capacity is no different than the bar you probably avoided that night. What makes The Dime unique is that it markets itself as a dive bar, yet the environment and ambiance can hold its own with LA’s current hot spot, Hyde. Anyone who’s been to the two can tell you that besides Hyde’s exclusivity, there’s not much difference.

Drinks at The Dime run about average LA price, so no deals here. In fact, to get that low key night of yours going, buy a round for the group of girls or guys sitting across from your own group and watch your social circle grow. What’s even better about this place is that there are not any hang ups about dress or looks. (Ok, its LA, every place has that, but less so here.) Stroll in with your favorite undershirt and jeans, order a drink, and enjoy yourself. Chances are, you are not alone.
