Ah, Angelyne. I’d forgotten about you and your old hotness.
Thank you for rolling into the Albertson’s parking lot yesterday and reminding me that you’re awesome.
If you’ve never seen Angelyne teetering around LA in her Barbie shoes, you’ve missed one of our craziest local celebrities. Big Boy has nothing on this chic. Neither does Dennis Woodruff. She’s the original Paris Hilton; slutty, blond and famous for nothing. I heart her.
Angelyne became locally famous in the eighties for the ultimate in self-promotion, gigantic billboards featuring herself in underwear, of course. She’s always driven a pink car (currently a bubblegum pink corvette) and had a pink dog. I bet she had Buddha, her pink maltese, way before Tinkerbell was a glimmer in Paris’ wonk eye. She was a candidate in the 2003 California Recall election, doing surprisingly well considering she’s, well, Angelyne. There was an Angelyne music video at some point and that famous billboard of hers has been in many movies, including The Day After Tomorrow and Escape From LA.
When I first moved to Los Angeles in the late 90s, Angelyne was everywhere. I started thinking there were 3 of her, one to go to Rite Aid, one to cruise the strip and one to pose for those billboards. There is some discrepancy on Angelyne’s age. One website lists her as 28. From what I saw yesterday, it’s probably closer to 58 but who’s counting, right? These days she’s a little harder to spot but if you care, just be patient and keep your eyes peeled for a bright pink car and a bunch of blond hair.
Trust me, she’s worth the wait.

Funny you should mention seeing her at Rite-Aid. I’ve seen her twice in my life, and both times were at Rite-Aid… The same one, in fact, in Beverly Hills…. Hmmmmm… Perhaps that’s where she gets her Geritol?
