
Well I have to say LA, you do it all! Between yesterday and today there was an AK-47 shootout, a mother arrested for possibly allowing her baby to drown, threats on school, and your daily stabbing and shooting.
- Police/Gang shootout involving AK-47’s in Northeast LA leaves two dead - Thursday, police and gang members were involved in a shoot out with the Avenues gang forcing blocks of Northeast LA to be shut down for nearly 6 hours, stranding residents and keeping students locked in doors. Police shot and killed a gang member who was involved in a drive-by shooting, in which a man holding a toddler was shot 15 times and killed. Only minutes after the drive-by police attempted to stop the suspects in a white Nissan about 10 blocks away. Three men jumped from the car shooting, one of them shot from an AK-47 rifle, another two guns at once. Police returned fire. One man was dead, but another two are at large.
- Mother arrested after 1-year-old drowns in pool - Paige Looney, 34, of Anaheim was arrested after her son slipped and fell into the pool. It is unclear what happened, but empty beer and liquor bottles were found all around the pool which had no gate around it. It was unclear how long the boy had been in the pool before his mother rescued him and gave him CPR. The boy died later in the pool.
- Threat on school scares of students and parents -1,400 Students of 2,200 enrolled did not go to school today because of a cryptic note printed in the a section of the school paper that read, “To Metal Destroyer Militia. Remember guys — We all go down 2/22!! Let’s quit stalling!! Much Love! 666! All the way baby!”
- Man Shot by Police in Glendale - Thursday, police shot and killed a gang member who was believed to be involved in a drive-by shooting only minutes before police arrives. The drive-by wounded and killed a man holding a toddler, when the suspected gang members shot at them 15 times. The shootout also left another suspect wounded.
- ROTC student causes police and Cal Stat campus to panic with a fake rifle - Police swarmed the school and some students and faculty fled or locked themselves in classrooms, only to find that he was in fact ROTC student, Bentley- Smith, who was supposed to have his rifle in a duffel bag. He was questioned and released.
- Man wounded in Beverly Hills Shooting - Police are searching for a man who may be a family member of the victim who was critically wounded in the hallway of a Beverly Hills apartment building. The man is currently in critical condition.
- Man stabbed to death in Palmdale - An unidentified man was stabbed to death at 11pm last night near the 17800 block of Lakespring Ave near 178th Street East for unknown reasons.
- LA Coroner asking for help to ID body of a woman - The body was found by a hiker on June, 22, 2007 near 107th Street East and N-8. They are guessing the woman was black, between 35-45 years-old and about 5′6”-5′9” tall. A red wig was found near her and she was wearing a yellow metal bracelet with stones.
