
- Police speak to the only survivor of yesterdays murder/suicide - Ian Mercado, was the only survivor from his fathers murder/suicide rampage talked to police today. Lt. Jack Conklin stated “We’re still searching for motive. We’ve talked to neighbors, but so far most neighbors are saying that they were a very quiet family.” Based on the shell casings, each person was only shot once. The dead were identified as Orland Cho, 41; Maricel Cho, 39; Nicole Cho, 9; Kathleen Cho, 8; and Christopher Cho, 5. Mercado was the mother’s son from a previous relationship. School stated that the Cho children were popular and gifted students.
- Man arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife to death - Kris Young Lee, 35, who is suspected of stabbing his wife to death in Downey last week, was caught and arrested after crashing on the 605 Freeway. The name of the 28-year-old woman killed has not been released. “Lee told CHP officers he had an argument with his wife and stabbed her with a large kitchen knife,” Calhoun said. A toddler was found leaving the apartment unattended and injured but it now in stable condition.
- Body of kidnapped man found in Ontario - Santiago Contreras, 34, was found on Saturday near Highway 138 on a mountain slope. He has been beaten Feb. 18th by a group of armed men who kidnapped him at gunpoint. No random note was left for the family. He was found in the mountains apparently shot at the scene. Police are investigating an incident a year ago when his brother-in-law was held for random in a drug-related incident to see if there are any connections.
- Mother and son are hospitalized after teenager hits them with vehicle - On the 5000 block of York Blvd. a mother and her 11-year-old boy were struck and critically wounded when a teenager struck them at 7am this morning. The mother, 44, has sever facial injuries, multiple fractures, and possibly a skull fracture. The son suffered a head injury but no broken bones. Both are now in stable condition.
- American Airline’s disputes man who says that his cousin died due to flight attendants care - Today AA disputed the account of a man who said his cousin died aboard a flight after she was twice refused oxygen by a flight attendant. He also claimed that medical devices, including two oxygen tanks, failed. Today, airline spokesman Charley Wilson said “there were 12 oxygen tanks on the plane and the crew checked them before the flight took off to make sure they were working.” Wilson said they used at least two on Desir. Desir was apparently not feeling well that day. Pilots agreed to land as quickly as possible, but it was too late. Desire collapsed, her last words “I cannot breathe.” The question now is, who is to blame?
- A Japanese man charged with murdering his wife back in 1981 - Kazuyoshi Miura, 60, was arrested at the Saipan airport last Thursday and is not in custody in LA on charges of murder and conspiracy to murder his wife in 1981. Kazumi Miura, 28, was shot No. 18 1982 in the 200 block of Fremont Ave. She died Nov. 30, 1982 without regaining consciousness. Investigators with the Cold Case unit believe her husband is guilty. - Teen killed in solo car wreck - Unidentified 19-year-old died when he crashed his Honda Civic at 6am iin Palmdale this morning. He was driving west on Avenue S-8 when when he lost control and his car flipped over multiple times. He was thrown from the car because he was not wearing a seat belt. It is unclear whether or not he was intoxicated.
