Film industry trade paper “Variety” introduced it’s own version of MySpace-facebook last week. “The Biz” is a networking site that allows media professionals a place to find work, pitch projects and exchange ideas.
The site is set up like any other: you create a profile, upload a picture, and start searching. There are no prerequisites to join, but participants are expected to list their work history. Thus, if you don’t have any credentials, you’re still at the bottom of the totem pole.
The upside? The site seems to be tailored for the web generation; a lot of people who’ve set up profiles are still in their twenties and thirties. Then again, all the old studio execs and A-list directors don’t need a networking site to get work.
But for young no-names looking to establish a career in entertainment, The Biz might provide a window of opportunity. Check out the Biz!
