Downtown Food Review – Food 630

February 27th, 2008 Written by: Big Al, the gal· No Comments

big al - food review - cafe 630Cafe 630 is a tasty little soup, salad, and sandwich shop located in the Central Library building. You’ll also find Panda Express and TCBY, but I’m not a junk food fan. Have I mentioned I have the metabolism of a large dead man?

Café 630 is a great place to grab a tuna sandwich and fruit salad (my favorite). Sometimes they have Lentil soup, which is great for us vegetarians. Their daily soup and half sandwich special will run you $5.99 and is plenty of food.

They aren’t angels, they do have an assortment of cakes, muffins, danishes, sugary drinks, chips, and candy bars. However, they provide the opportunity to eat well and then get right back to your library adventures.

BTW, they have free internet access (I’m using it as I type this) and several power outlets. Here’s a tip: the only two which work are the one by the gumball machine and the one on the other end of the table area next to the table for 5.

The staff is exceptionally friendly and patient. They have to be considering some of their nut-ball library-type customers. Pleasant service is underappreciated in this town.

There are loads of delicious restaurants all around the area. However, if you are spending some time at the library and need quick break, Café 630 is a great place to go. Also, you may want to grab a bite there before you go to one of the fabulous ALOUD events (hint! wink!).

Verdict: Good
Hours:
Sun: 12:30-4pm, Sat: 9am – 4pm, Mon-Fri: 8am-5pm
(I’ve never actually seen them close before 7pm though)
Address: Central Library - 630 W. 5th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90071
