
- Sentencing delayed in Wife who killed her husband in a tube of acid - A California appeals court has ordered an indefinite delay in sentencing of Larissa Schuster, 47, a Clovis biochemist convicted of killing her estranged husband by stuffing his body in a vat of acid. The delay will give the court time to consider her attorneys’ request to interview jurors about possible misconduct during her high-profile trial last year.
- “Green Skeleton Bandit” Killed by Police Marshal - A United States marshal shot and killed a man called the “Green Skeleton Bandit,” who was responsible for six robberies. The bandit happened to be fleeing the scene of a robbery and threatened the Marshal who was escorting an official to a gang summit. “Basically, he walked into a robbery,” Los Angeles Police Officer April Harding said of the marshal. “He sees a man walking out with a large amount of cash and a butcher knife.”
- Teacher’s aide gets 6 months for stealing from a disabled child - Kristen Rene Santoyo, has been sentence to 6 months in jail, followed by three years probation, and a $295 restitution to the student. The parents of the student put $5 a day into her lunch box along with her food for snacks with Santoyo stole from the girl. Her attorney said that Santoyo took the money to feed a meth habit.
- Pedestrian Dies in Hit-and-run case -At 7:30pm yesterday a pedestrain was struck and killed by a vehicle while he was crossing the street by Fallbrook and Ventura. A BMW sedan his him and fled the scene. A second vehicle remained at the scene. Witnesses told police the driver in the red BMW was a woman with dark hair.
- Family of Van Nuys Man say he was wrongfully killed by Police - The family of a 25-year-old man who shot and killed by police on Feb. 27, after he was believed to be waving a microphone stand at them, filed a claim Tuesday against the city and the LAPD police officer who shot him, saying that the officer used excessive or negligent deadly force. The city has 45 days to accept of reject the claim.
- Marine could face life in prison for shooting - Three U.S. Marines could face the death penalty after a judge’s ruling in the shooting death of a man in Long Beach. Long Beach Police Detective Patrick O’Dowd says Hernandez confessed he shot David Pettigrew. Landers and Vigeant claimed the 22-year-old victim owed them cocaine and cash for a laptop he had promised to buy.
- Motorcylsits dies on 101 - At 1:38am this morning, a 28-year old Pasadena man, riding a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle, traveling about 85 mph, suffered fatal injuries today when he crashed into the rear of a slower-moving vehicle on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway just west of Normandie Ave. “Both vehicles made a lane change to the number 3 lane at the same time, and as a result, the motorcycle collided into the right rear of the unknown vehicle.”
- 12 Men indicted in child porn ring - Twelve U.S. men were indicted for participating in a global child pornography ring that distributed more than 400,000 pictures and videos of children engaged in sexual activities. The men being charged where engaging in a child exploitation enterprise, conspiracy, advertisement of child pornography, transportation of child pornography, receipt of child pornography and obstruction of justice. They were:
- Michael Berger, 33, of Mechanicsville, Va.
- James Freeman, 47, of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.
- Ruble Keys, 55, of Medford, Ore.
- Gary Lakey, 54, of Anderson, Ind.
- Marvin Lambert, 33, of Indianapolis.
- Neville McGarity, 40, of Medina, Texas.
- John Mosman, 46, of Waterbury, Conn.
- Warren Mumpower, 63, of Spokane, Wash.
- Raymond Roy, 54, of San Juan Capistrano
- Erik Wayerski, 46, of Round Rock, Texas.
- Warren Weber, 56, of Boise, Idaho.
- Ronald White, 59, of Burlington, N.C.
- Additionally, two other men were charged in connection with the ring but not included in the indictment. They were:
- Stepan Bondarenko, 38, of Philadelphia.
- Daniel Castleman, 43, of Lubbock, Texas.
- Michael Berger, 33, of Mechanicsville, Va.
