LA Wounded: Sexual Assault, 11 Car Crash on 101, Pipebombs, and More

  • Woman given 50 years for sexually assaulting 4-year-old niece - Sheila Sikat, 28, who admitted to videotaping her boyfriend sexually assaulting her 4-year-old niece, was sentenced to 50 years behind bars. On Dec, 17th, Sikat was convicted on 55-sex-related charges including multiple counts of lewd conduct, anal or genital penetration by a foreign object, using a minor for a sex act and oral copulation. Sikat, emotionally told a judge that she deserved to be punished for her actions, even though her sister — the victim’s mother — asked for leniency. Her boyfriend David Shoutyh Hwang, 36, who apparently drugged Sikat to get her to participate, plead guilty and received the same sentence. He is accused in Texas of videotaping sex with five other girls, one as young as 8 months old and will stand trial later.
  •  11 Car Crash on 101 Freeway causes major back ups - Some of you may have been stuck in the back-up on the 101 today due to a 11+ car pile-up on the 101 that happened at 6:45am near Topanga Cyn. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to help take injured people to the hospital, but the number and the extent of their injuries were unknown.
  • Dorm in UC Davis evacuated because pipebombs found -  UC Davis freshman from Torrance, Mark Christopher Woods, 19,  was arrested this morning on suspicion of possessing chemicals to make explosives and possessing explosive materials on school grounds after investigators found partially assembled pipe bombs in his dorm room, the university said. Both charges are felonies. 455 students were evacuated from the dorms, none were injured.

  • 11-year-old on bicycle hit by car and seriously injured - At 7:40am, near the 15000 block of PLummer St., a vehicle struck and seriously injured an 11-year-old boy riding a bicycle. The boy suffered a serious head injury and was airlifted to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. His current statue has not been reported.
  • Shooting leaves one man in Fairfax Village Dead - At 11:50pm last night, at Melrose Ave and North Poinsettia Place, a  “male Hispanic about 25 or 26 years old,” was shot several times in the upper body. He died later after being taken to the hospital. The alleged shooter has been detained and is being questioned by police. The motive is uncertain at this point.
  • ‘Green Skeleton Bandit’ Identified -The 24-year-old armed-robbery suspect known as the ‘Green Skeleton Bandit’ who was shot and killed by a U.S. Marshal who happened to be walking into an AutoZone store on the 5100 block of Vineland Ave, when the Bandit was walking out after he has just robbed the store, has now been identified as Lawrence Dean Smith Jr. of Palmdale.
  • Landslide endangers homes and forces some to evacuate -  The backyard of a Westwood home collapsed in a landslide at 7:10am this morning, sending tons of mud down onto Sepulveda Boulevard. As a result three power lines were knocked down and 1,819 residents in Brentwood and Bel Air were without power until 8:40am. Some homes were evacuated while inspectors worked to determine if the area was safe. No one was hurt.
