We’ve got ourselves a nice little boxing weekend to look forward to and for me it can not come soon enough because I’ve been starving for some quality hitting power and big-name attraction. The WCB: Oleg Maskaev vs. Samuel Peter fight is shaping up to be a pretty darn sweet evening. It has a tremendous undercard as well, lightweight knockout kid Juan Diaz is set to blast it out against usually cool, calm, and collected Nate Campbell. The folks over at HBO Sports have put together another spectacular night of blood guts boxing saga for us, the viewers at home.
Oleg Maskaev (34-5, 26 KOs) vaulted back into the heavyweight title picture when he defeated Hasim Rahman to capture a title belt in August 2006. Originally from Kazakhstan, the battle-tested veteran will confront the highly regarded Samuel “The Nigerian Nightmare” Peter (29-1, 22 KOs) whose only loss was to the formidable Wladimir Klitschko. The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds.
Lightweight champ Juan Diaz (33-0, 17 KOs) of Houston puts his crown on the line against contender Nate Campbell (31-5-1, 25 KOs) of Tampa, Fla. Diaz looked terrific in defeating Acelino Freitas and Julio Diaz, and hopes to keep the momentum going against this crafty challenger.
I’m looking forward to not having to pay to see these fights. Pay Per View can get a bit expensive if you’re doing it every week, and with all the great fights and shit coming up it’s nice to see a bitchen evening like this ultimately cost me nothing, other than your traditional cable costs. Plus HBO boxing is always broadcast in HD, unlike Showtime, which only seems to think “big fights” are suitable for HD stature.
Next weekend the 15th of March we’ll be back to PPV for MARQUEZ vs. PACQUIAO II, which I guarantee will end in a knockout. Every fight for Pacquaio seems to end with blood all over everyone, even the people at ringside who often complain about blood spatters. It’s sure to be a battle that you don’t want to miss, plus I’m also sure the undercard will be good, perhaps not blow your socks off great, but worth $50 bucks.
Overall we’ve got two solid weeks of pugilism coming up, this Saturday March 8th and next Saturday March 15th on HBO. I’m going to be watching, you should try and at least catch the Sam Peter fight because it’s free and their Heavyweights. Anything can happen when two big men step into the ring, it’s looking like it could turn out to be a real headbanger, I wouldn’t miss it.
