LAsubway08-03-09My Caboose is Totally Loose: Los Angeles Subway Systems Attach Drinking Cars to Promote Rider-ship

In their latest stroke of brilliance, the Los Angeles Transit Authority (LATA) has approved the addition of spirit-disbursing subway cars to their regular Metros. After a slow year of below average rider-ship and non-existent profits, LATA expects their newest brainchild to be the toast of the town.

The Director of the LATA hopes these new cars will increase usage of the subways and cut down on traffic and instances of drunk driving. A spokesperson for LATA was quoted as saying: “Not only will these new subway cars provide cheap and safe transport for those who partake in the joys of alcohol, but it will also stimulate the economy and offer a new source of income for LATA, allowing us to cut the cost of fares and expand the Metro lines throughout the county.”

Each so-called ‘Wet Caboose’ contains a bar, lounge, and band platform for live music. So far, six ‘Wet Cabooses’ have been manufactured. These cars will be in operation on the Green and Blue Lines as of September 1, 2008. In celebration of the launching, LATA has planned an open-bar gala on the actual ‘Wet Cabooses’ for the public. Dependent upon the success of these initial six cars, LATA will decide whether or not to extend the service to all trains on all lines beginning January 1, 2009.

Dara Maller, a native Los Angelino and Metro commuter thinks the ‘Wet Caboose’ is good news for LATA and all of Los Angeles. Maller stated: “From now on, it’s going to be a very happy hour commute!”
