What to Watch This Week - Southpark photoThis week brings South Park back on the air, along with the popular Top Chef. There are also a couple of premieres that may be interesting. The Pac-10 tournament begins on Wednesday, putting college basketball fanatics out of commission for a few days. This and more in this week’s TV picks.

What to Watch Live

South Park (Wednesday, Comedy Central, 10 PM)

Defying all predictions made at its debut, Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s oft-criticized but much-beloved show has managed to make it to its twelfth season, which premieres on Wednesday night. Join Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman for what promises to be another exciting season.

Canterbury’s Law (Monday, FOX, 8 PM)

Fox’s new lawyer show premieres this week with an explanation of the lead character, Elizabeth Canterbury’s, motivation for cracking down on crime as a no-nonsense district attorney. Her son will disappear and the result will harden her against criminals for the rest of her days, but you’ll have to watch to find out exactly what happens in between.

What to DVR

Top Chef (Wednesday, Bravo, 10 PM)

The show that made cooking cool starts its fourth season this week. The wannabe chefs will go to Chicago to have their food judged by the show’s esteemed panel. Bravo has added no gimmicks to the show’s extremely successful formula for the new season. DVR it because it’s on at the same time as South Park.

The Return of Jezebel James (Friday, FOX, 8 PM)

Parker Posey stars in this new show created by Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palldino. Posey’s character must turn to her estranged younger sister for help after finding out that she can’t conceive. DVR it because it’s on Friday night.

What Sports to Watch

Pac-10 Conference Tournament (FSW, Wednesday, 6 PM and 8:30 PM, Thursday, 12 PM, 2:30 PM, 6 PM, 8:30 PM, Friday, 6 PM, 8:30 PM, CBS, Saturday, 3:00 PM)

See the end of season tournament for what has been perhaps college basketball’s best conference this past season. National #3 UCLA is the favorite for the tournament, which is as usual being held at Staples Center. There are a number of other teams that can’t be counted out, including USC, fresh off a victory over #7 Stanford on Saturday.

What to Watch This Week - Juan Manuel Marquez PhotoJuan Manuel Marquez vs. Manny Pacquiao (Saturday, HBO PPV, 6 PM)

Since their controversial draw in 2004, Pacquiao has become one of the world’s most popular fighters, while Marquez has at times struggled to advance his career. This fight will finally establish a champion in the marquee battle of the Mexico-Philippines boxing rivalry.

Lakers at New Orleans Hornets (Friday, KCAL, 5 PM)

The Lakers remain the top team in the Western Conference despite Sunday’s defeat at the hands of the Sacramento Kings. The Hornets sit just a game and half back of the Lakers, but face the roughest stretch of their season in the coming week – consecutive games against the Spurs, Lakers, and Pistons.
