January 26-April 12, 2008
Project Room I:
Brody Condon: Judgment Modification
(After Memling)
You can still check out this very interesting exhibition until April 12th at the Santa Monica Museum of Art.
The artist recreates Northern European religious paintings in current computer game visual styles. There is a site specific digital animation based on the fameous Hans Memling painting “The Last Judgement”.
Condon’s previous work has been characterized by subversive hacking tactics and intervening into commercial computer games. This show reveals his shift of focus to actually composing projected animated installations that function as moving image paintings. They are non-interactive and run continuously, like a game waiting for a player.
Some stills of Condon’s work can be viewed here.
You can also view a video of an per-formative event he did in 2004, where he combined fantasy role-playing, historical reenactment, extreme sports, and computer games.
