  • Missing 9-year-old boy found dead - The search for Zane Newton, 9, who had been reported abducted ended with his body found and his friend confessing that they had played in a tunnel that they weren’t supposed to. The tunnel collapsed and killed the boy, his friend panicked and made up the abduction story.
  • 7 Year-Old killed in cross walk - Aileen Trujillo, 7, was crossing the street with a 17-year-old boy and a 12- year-old girl when they were struck by a vehicle at 7:15 a.m Tuesday morning. The boy suffered major injuries and the other girl was treated for minor injuries, the CHP reported. The 38-year-old van driver, Francisco J. Gonzalez, was not arrested because apparently “the sun was obscuring his vision.” The pedestrians light was green at the time they were crossing.
  • 2 killed and 3 injured in 405 car crash - Two motorists were killed Wednesday in a solo-vehicle crash on the 405 Freeway North Lakewood Boulevard offramp shortly before 12:30 a.m. Five people were trapped inside the wreckage following the crash. Two motorists — a man in his mid 20s and a man about 30 years old –suffered fatal injuries in the accident, CHP Officer David Porter said. Three other victims were taken to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center but their conditions were not immediately reported, he added.

  • Animal control officer arrested for drowning kittens - Kevin Murphy, 36, the head of Adelanto’s animal control office has been charged with six counts of killing, maiming and abusing animals and faces up to six years in prison if he is convicted. Investigators said he systematically drowned dozens of kittens over four months last year. “The charges allege that he killed in the neighborhood of 50 kittens while working as head of animal control in Adelanto.”
  • Fiery crash kills 1 and injures another - A motorist was killed and one other was injured at 11:35pm last night in a fiery wrong-way chain-reaction crash on the 118 Freeway east of Reseda Boulevard. Firefighters responded to the crash to find a jackknifed big rig and two passenger vehicles ablaze. One male motorist was pronounced dead at the scene and one other motorist suffered minor injuries,. It was unclear which vehicle was traveling the wrong way, but an investigation was under way.
  • SUV drives off plunges Bob Hope parking structure - A vehicle plunged some 20 feet off a two story parking structure at the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank on Tuesday night. The driver was able to walk away with minor injuries even after the vehicle flipped over landing upside down. The circumstances surrounding the accident were under investigation, he added.
  • Rapist allegedly had sexual relationship with young girl - Convicted rapist Darryl Eugene Kelly, 42, has been arrested for lewd acts on a minor and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor after having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl. The teen said “she had been having a sexual relationship with Kelly while in the city of Moreno Valley, over a two-month period.” Kelly was reportedly living with the girl, who had been reported missing Dec. 7. She has since been taken into protective custody.
