Theater This Week: Spring Blood Bath

March 20th, 2008 Written by: Jenae· No Comments

theatrecurtains08-03-18For lovers of the morbid, acerbic, and twisted: rejoice! This weekend’s theater offerings dish up a plentiful supply of blood, guts, and even a bit of Japanese battle-stadium glory. It may not be Halloween, but there is never a bad time to contemplate the perfect murder, feel chills crawl up your arms after hearing a haunting fable, or simply find humor in some frighteningly real human follies. For information, prices, venues, and more for all four plays, keep reading!

Carnage: A Comedy - Repent! The end is near for the run of a fast-paced production about televangelism and apocalypse-fixated preachers! A parody of one of America’s most frightening and bizarre religious movements should entertain in its extended run (by popular demand!).

Runs through March 29th. Thursdays-Saturdays: 8 P.M.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Fans of this winter’s Tim Burton film adaptation of Sweeney Todd will be pleasantly surprised by a refreshingly minimalist production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical. While Sweeney is known for bringing his razors to the throats of unsuspecting scruffy victims, expect Sondheim’s Sweeney to raise a glockenspiel, too, as all of the actors in the production’s ten-person cast provide the instrumental score to the production. Half of the cast include members of the original cast from the 2005 Tony-Award winning revival of Sweeney Todd. Not to be missed!

Through April 6th. Thursdays: 8 P.M. Fridays: 8 P.M. Saturdays: 2 P.M. 8 P.M. Sundays: 1:00 P.M. 6:30 P.M.

Dickie & Babe: The Truth About Leopold and Loeb - Partners in crime sometimes also mean partners in love. The story of “Dickie & Babe” is based upon the lives of two students who met at the University of Chicago in the early 1920s, fell in love, and planned the perfect murder together. Get ready for a chilling true story with some Hitchcokian overtones.

Through March 30th. Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays: 8 P.M. Sundays: 2 P.M.

  • Price: $22.00 - for Sunday’s matinee and $28.00 for evening performances (Buy Now)

Stadium Devildare: Battle for G*dzilla X - Anything that advertises itself as a mix of Japanese anime and “American Gladiators” must be a whirlwind of a show. Get ready for a multimedia stadium-battlefield experience that, hopefully, involves few broken limbs, but plenty of blown minds.

Through March 23rd. Fridays, Saturdays: 8 P.M. Sundays: 7 P.M. (followed by a talk-back with members of the cast and production team)
