Dodger Beat: The Regular Season is Almost Here

Dodger beat - 08-3-20 dodger outfieldersWith the MLB regular season only about a week away the Dodgers, just like every other team, are playing their final spring training games and trying to figure out who is going to be on their 25 man roster to start the season. The latter is easier said than done. The Dodgers have an abundance of outfielders, Andrew Jones will be the starting center fielder for sure, but choosing between Pierre, Kemp and Ethier (pictured) for the two corner spots is proving difficult for new skipper Torre. Torre hasn’t decided yet making it more than likely that it will come down to the wire.

Third base is one of the biggest problems that the Dodgers have yet to address. Nomar and LaRoche, the two player that were supposed to be battling it out for third base, are both injured. LaRoche had surgery on his right thumb, while Nomar has a broken hand, neither will be ready for opening day. The only logical solution is for the Dodgers to trade for someone that will really help them at the corner. Loretta from the Astros is a name that has been thrown out there along with Belliard from the Nationals. Both would be within the Dodgers price range and both are excellent defenders with average offense.

The Dodgers trip to China was more of a success for MLB than for the team. They ended up tying the first game 3-3 and losing the second game 6-3 to the Padres. What a way to kick off baseball in China, a tie game in front of a packed house. With it being the first game to be played in China by the MLB you would think they would actually try and finish the game.

Matt Kemp and Furcal both homered and Brad Penny (pictured) pitched a gem (6 innings, 3 hits and 1 unearned run). If pitching a great game wasn’t enough, Torre named Penny as the opening day starter right after the win. Penny has had a great spring training, 2 wins and a 0.56 ERA in 4 games. I would say that Penny is the go to guy to try and start the season right.

Only 9 games left before the season starts. The last three exhibition game will be against the Red Sox, two at Dodger Stadium and one at the Coliseum. I will be at the first two games seeing my team, the Sox , beat the Dodgers. See ya at the Ballgame.

I thought you were a Dodger fan, but you’re not. Your team is the Red Sox. Better hope they’ve ended their choke sessions.

Good update my friend, but bad choice in franchise. Dodgers all the way. Hope to see you in the World Series.

Throw Pierre under the bus! Get Lorreta!

under the bus is a little harsh. loretta is good, but i’ll take 64 stolen bases.

he can’t throw, but we got jones in center now son. pierre gave us 90-something runs last season.

if we trade for loretta, i pray we don’t lose pierre.
