monta ellisLos Angeles Lakers lost at Staples Center last night against Golden State. The Warriors blew a 26 point lead, but Stephen Jackson hit some dangerous shots from three point land. Kobe Bryant tried to counter with a couple clutch shots of his own, but the Warriors were too much in the end. Jackson finished with 31 as did Monte Ellis. Kobe dropped 36 but a poor first half proved to be too big a hole to climb out of. The Warriors scored 72 points in the first half, and retain the 8th seed in the playoffs with that victory. The Lakers can take revenge tonight on the Warriors home floor at 7:30 on KCAL channel 9.

The Dodgers lost against the National League Champion Colorado Rockies. Chad Billingsly had a rough game, giving up 8 hits and five runs. He is set to be 3rd in the Dodger pitching rotation, but neither he or Joe Torre were alarmed by his outing. Billingsley, has always relied on his fastball, and is trying to add the off-speed pitch to his repertoire. “I never really threw a changeup. I’m trying to learn it,” said Billingsly after the game. Meanwhile Brad Hawpe and Matt Holiday had two hits a piece and six RBI’s between them. The final score was 8-2.

jim furykTiger Woods’ rally for his 6th straight win was cut short due to the weather in Florida. Unless he makes a huge comeback, the streak will end tomorrow. He is -12, five behind the leader Jeff Ogilvy. Two men, Jim Furyk and Vijay Singh, are two strokes out, and Rateif Goosen is in the hunt only 3 strokes back. Tiger is thru the 11th hole and the leader is thru the 9th, so with just seven to go, five strokes is a tall order. But those who know Tiger, know that if any one can compose such a comeback, it is him.

Novak Djokovic held off American Mardy Fish to win the Pacific Life Open final 6-2 5-7 6-3 yesterday and secured his second prestigious ATP title of the year. Two months after claiming his first grand slam crown at the Australian Open, the Serb broke Fish once in the final set before a victory that took just over two hours. He spoke highly of Fish, “He’s a much better player than that 98th and deserves to be ranked much higher.” Fish beat top ranked Roger Federer in Saturday’s semi-finals. Djokovic, only 20, is ranked number three in the world.

UCLA will advance to play West Virginia in the Regional Semi Finals. They defeated Texas A&M this weekend, 51-49. Kevin love had 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Darren Collison had 21 points going 5 for 8 from beyond the arc. Georgetown fell to Davidson, 74-70. Stephen Curry scored 25 of his 30 points in the second half, and little Davidson rallied from a 17-point second-half deficit to stun the number two seed. Davidson, who hadn’t won an NCAA tournament game in 39 years before Friday, will face number 3 seed Wisconsin in the Midwest Regional in Detroit. Number two Duke lost to West Virginia 73-67. They will face Xavier n March 27th when the tournament continues.
