What to Watch This Week: March Madness, Shows Diverging, Baseball

March 24th, 2008 Written by: Matt Unangst· 2 Comments

The NCAA tournament resumes on Thursday with only UCLA left of the area’s teams. One big hit returns, another ends, and a cult hit calls it quits. Baseball comes back with two early morning games in Japan.

What to Watch This Week - CSI Miami PhotoWhat to Watch Live

CSI: Miami (Monday, CBS, 10 PM)

David Caruso and company resume their sixth season on CBS. Due to the writers’ strike, CSI: Miami went on hiatus in the middle of its season in January. But now everyone is back to solve more unbelievable crimes by finding evidence in the strangest of places. This week’s main case is a baseball player who is suspected of murdering his would-be bride at his wedding. Completely coincidentally, baseball season begins this week (see below).

Jericho (Tuesday, CBS, 10 PM)

Jericho fans’ massive effort to save the show turned out to be a failure: the show ends this week. The producers shot two different endings for this episode and have gone with the one that better finishes the series, so many of the show’s unanswered questions will probably be answered this week in a way that is unsatisfying for people who have been watching the show all along.

What to Watch This Week - Trace Adkins photo The Apprentice (Thursday, NBC, 9 PM)

This season closes this week with the Donald’s decision between the two finalists: some English guy Piers Morgan and country superstar Trace Adkins. I can’t help but think that these two were chosen to provide the greatest possible contrast in the end, but no matter. The winner will get $250,000 for his charity.

What to DVR

Greek (Monday, ABC Family, 8 PM)

The houses have to weed out the mole who trashed the Greek system to the campus newspaper at the end of last season. Is it not absurd that ABC Family is airing a show about organizations focused on partying? DVR it in case you haven’t seen it before and decide you don’t like the fictional version of Real World.

What Sports to Watch

NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament (CBS, Thursday, 4 PM & 6:30 PM, Friday, 4 PM & 6:30 PM, Saturday, 3:30 PM & 5:30 PM, Sunday, 11 AM & 1 PM)

The tournament kicks off its second weekend of action on Thursday with Sweet 16 games. All four top seeds remain, but there are a couple of underdogs who have made it through, including UCLA’s Thursday opponent, Western Kentucky. By the time the games are over on Sunday, only the Final Four will remain to determine the national champion.

Boston Red Sox vs. Oakland Athletics (ESPN2, Tuesday & Wednesday, 3:05 AM)

The Red Sox’ Japanese phenom Daisuke Matsuzaka is scheduled to start Tuesday’s game, which was under threat of cancellation last week because of MLB’s refusal to pay the teams’ coaches a stipend for the trip. If you’re hungering for baseball after such a long layoff, stay up late (or get up early) on Tuesday and Wednesday for these two games to kick off the 2008 MLB season.

Why do you always tell people to watch such TERRIBLE PROGRAMMING? CSI is the worst show on TV / This is LA baby so the RED SOX can kiss my butt / and Jericho I think the fact that its now been cancelled twice speaks for itself. I’ll give you March Madness but that’s about it buddy.
