
- 13 Member indicted for selling PCP - A grand jury has indicted 13 members of a Watts street gang, the Grape Street Crips, considered by police to be one of the city’s most dangerous gangs, of running a PCP drug ring in Southern California over a six-month period. Federal law enforcement officials, who spoke anonymously, said the ring produced 54 kilograms of PCP worth an estimated $1 million.
- Man shot to death near 101 on ramp -Â Los Angeles police say an unidentified 25-year-old man was shot and killed at 12:50am last night near the Van Ness Avenue offramp of the Hollywood Freeway. Police responded to a call and found the the man only moments later. Apparently the man had been approached by a suspect who shot him once in the chest and then fled on foot. Police have not released a description of the suspect nor made any arrests in connection with the shooting.
- Three of LA’s dead beat dads arrested -Â One of LA’s 10 “most wanted” alleged child support-payment evaders was arrested yesterday after a photo of him was posted last week. Abdoul R. Sesay, who allegedly owes $427,000, was arrested at an apartment in Marina del Rey. He will have to pay $20,000 by May 1 and thereafter make monthly payments of $1,695 or go back to jail for 90 days. “Sesay was the third target on the list to be netted. The first, Michael W. Davis, was arrested before the announcement of a new program that was launched to track down the county’s most egregious offenders. The second, Michael Lee, turned himself in one day after his photo was circulated.”
- Thieves attacking our fire hydrants -Â Over a hundred have been tampered with in the past six months by scarp metal thieves. The stolen parts, typically brass caps and sometimes brass threading, only yield about $5 from recyclers, but costs $125 plus labor to replace.” Jed Holley, manager of A-1 Recycling, says the problem is a safety danger as well as a crime. There have been no instances of crews arriving at a fire and finding an inoperable hydrant.
- 49-year old man found dead in alley - An unidentified North Hollywood resident discovered the body of a 49-year-old man in an alley, on the 8000 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard near Strathern Street, around 9 p.m on Tuesday night. It is believed her was left there after dying of an apparent drug overdose. “It’s looking like an overdose,” Henkle said. “He’s got a drug record and there was discharge coming from his nose and mouth.” There were no signs of trauma.
- Hit and Run driver injures 17-year old -Â A 17-year-old boy has been hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding a bicycle in Artesia at 11:30pm on Elaine Street near South Street. An older compact red Honda was driving north on Elaine Street and sideswiped the back of the victim’s bicycle, causing him to hit the pavement. The driver did not stop and authorities believe that it is likely the Honda has visible front-end damage.
