March 27th, 2008 Written by: Mali· 4 Comments

HATCP08-03-27CityZine brings you LA band, Henry and the Clay People, as a part of our “Get to know your LA Bands” series where we introduce you to a variety of bands and you tell us what you think. Henry and the Clay People, is an LA rock band from Glendale and Irvine made up by Eric on the drums, Joey on lead vocals and guitar, Andy on guitar and vocals, and Noah on vocals and bass. They have been playing nearly everywhere around LA lately and are definitely worth a listen.

They just released a 7 inch Single/Digital EP on JaxART records and will be playing a number of shows in LA soon. Tonight they will be on the air with Little Radio, tomorrow they will be playing at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach (Map) for $5, and on April 14th they will be playing at the Echo (Map) for free!

Recently, CityZine spoke with lead singer and guitarist Joey Siara, to ask him out about his favorite bands and preparing for a show. Let’s see what he had to say…

Could you give a brief description of your band?

My little brother Andy plays lead guitar and sings a bit. Eric is the drummer. Noah plays bass and also sings. I sing and play guitar. The music is a mix of the rock and roll we’ve grown up with for better or worse. Guitar driven sloppy rock and roll.

What’s your favorite song to play live?

Whatever song is newest until the novelty ends and we write another. I also like playing any Neil Young song. They are typically pretty easy but a lot of fun. We’ve covered 3 Neil songs over the years and I hope there are many more to come.

How do you get ready for a live show?

Drink tickets.

If you could rid the world of one song, what would it be?

It would probably be one of our older songs.

Dead or alive. What 5 acts would you have play with you at a festival?

I just watched The Complete Monterey Pop Festival on DVD so I guess that Jimi Hendrix and Otis Redding are fresh and are proven to handle a festival. For the rest…hmmm….this is getting quite humbling. Let’s say, The Faces, and I’m sure Springsteen could deal with the crowds. Throw Teenage Fanclub on there somewhere for good measure. They’d be fun.

If push comes to shove, what is your all-time favorite album?

The Clash-London Calling. Good luck finding a record that has 19 consistently GREAT songs.

What’s your most memorable experience on the road story?

Playing “Would You Rather” with Le Switch

What was the first record you ever bought? And where did you buy it?

It was a Face to Face record. I think I bought it at the Wherehouse or maybe I borrowed it from a friend and never gave it back. I do that a lot. I can’t remember.

What’s the best cure for a hangover?

Vomiting until its all out and having someone to clean up after you. Saltines too.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Picking my nose.

Who would win in a fight, a Ninja or a Pirate and why?

Ninja. Pirates are sloppy.

Who would play you in a film based upon your life?

Larry David…I’m sure Andy would fight me for Larry too.

Favorite place in LA?

North East Griffith Park…although I always enjoy checking out the old Victorian district in Angelino Heights.

What’s the best piece of advice someone has ever given you and did you take notice?

Mostly that cliche “do what makes you happy” stuff. I’m pretty happy right now. I’m broke and in debt but making music keeps me excited.
