theatrestage08-03-26With sunnier skies comes a variety of lighter and sillier theatrical fare this weekend. New productions seem to be the trend in Los Angeles playhouses, so check out some world premieres with some fresh acting faces. Read below for more information about the shows, venues, prices and more for An Act of Love, The World’s Largest Rodent, The Nerd and Moon Shine!

An Act of Love - A Romantic comedy, “An Act of Love” is a world premiere show about a recently-divorced insurance salesman trying to redefine his life (and if you were an insurance salesman, wouldn’t you?). Of course, he has to overcome the kooky antics of his dependent sister, narcissistic mother, and new romantic interests first. If you’re sick of seeing Matthew McCoughany overact in similarly romantic ventures on screen, “An Act of Love” seems a refreshing alternative.

The World’s Largest Rodent - Forget Harvey as America’s favorite over-sized non-human companion. Wouldn’t you rather have a giant capybara give you advice about your love life, especially when your girlfriend is an evangelical lesbian? A satire that flips expectations, prepare yourself for a show that embraces bizarre anthropomorphism and bawdy, broad comedy.

Through April 6th. Fridays and Saturdays: 8 P.M. Sundays: 4 P.M.

The Nerd - Everyone has that one friend who never quite knows how to act in social situations. However, it’s unlikely that anyone has ever had a friend quite like “the nerd” of “The Nerd,” who comes to visit an old friend only to unwittingly embarrass him and exploit his hospitality through his extreme social ineptitude and anxiety. It sounds mean-spirited, but a little acerbic social commentary never really hurt anyone, right?

Through April 6th. Tuesdays-Saturdays: 8 P.M. Sundays (March 30th and April 6th): 2 P.M.

Moon Shine! - Yee-haw for this West Coast premiere of a country-western musical comedy about three brothers who must find three brides to marry them before they lose their inheritance of the family pet food business. The premise sounds silly, but how could a romantic musical comedy that takes place in the Lone Star State not be at least a bit entertaining?

Opens March 28th. Through April 27th. Fridays and Saturdays: 8:00 P.M. Sundays: 2:30 P.M.

  • Prices: $25.00 (Students and Seniors) $28.00 (Regular) (Ticket Information Call for Purchases: 818.884.1907)
