What happens when you mix Donkey Kong with popular hits?
Donkey Business.
Peter Bull, infamously known as Norwegian Recycling, is the mastermind behind the mash-ups that make up this music that blends so harmoniously. This album may be Bull’s first official album, but he has been known to put out other songs, namely “Sean Said it Right”, which samples Sean Kingston’s “Take You There” and Nelly Furtado’s “Say It Right”.
Donkey Business is Norwegian Recycling’s first themed album, with all the tracks blending Donkey Kong songs alongside pop songs. Who knew Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean” could make you want to grab a controller and throw barrels at an enemy all night long?
The album in general is very nicely constructed. Instead of rough transitions, Bull focuses on making the two songs work, even if it means slowing the tempo of one song down to match the other. I find it surprising that one can even think to put two completely different songs together to create a work of art. Norwegian Recycling is quite different from the slew of artists and DJs that have tried but failed to make two types of music work in conjunction with one another.
Norwegian Recycling’s music is available free online.
