We eat cupcakes for many reasons: we like the taste, we’re feeling nostalgic, and sometimes just because they’re there.
But why do we make them? I don’t know about your house, but in mine you didn’t get cake just because it’s Tuesday.
Cake is an occasion, be it a birthday, first communion or anniversary. Cake is synonymous with celebrations, and by eating cake we are emphasizing our happiness.
That being said, sometimes there isn’t a cupcake shop nearby. Sometimes, even when there is one, it’s closed. What to do? Dare I say it - make your own? For those truly trying and downright desperate moments, might I recommend these blogs.
Vanilla Garlic: I know vanilla and garlic are not a particularly tempting flavor combination, but this Sacramento blog is a personal favorite of mine. Check out the drop down menu on the right for some unique and truly inspirational cupcake recipes. The author also has a truly amazing way of attracting total morons and his commentary is laugh out loud funny.
Cupcake Bakeshop: Everything you need to know to make fabulous, beautiful cupcakes. The photos are excellent and the FAQ page answers any question you could ever imagine. There are three years worth of archives to view, so you’ll never make the same cake twice.
Way More Than 52 Cupcakes: Authored by the self-proclaimed “Cupcake Queen†this blog has a great sense of humor. If you want proof, check out the March 23rd post entitled “Peep Family Overrun by Rum Cupcakes.†Be sure to also check out the photos of her gorgeous puppy.
Cupcakes Take The Cake: The most famous of all the cupcake blogs currently out there, this blog covers cupcake shops across the US, magazines and cookbooks featuring cupcakes – even cupcake art. The authors’ love of cupcakes is positively frightening you need to see it to believe it.
