IHOP. Yum. While I have always been a friend of the IHOP, their downtown L.A. location has turned me into an actual fan. The food is pretty much the same at any location … except for the time in the Marina in San Francisco when we happened upon a 5 star sous chef at his second job. But that’s another story for another day.
Anyhoo, the reason I am a fan of the downtown IHOP is because the service is always always friendly! In Los Angeles, we are accustomed to being treated like home invaders by wait staff. When I visit family in Georgia, I find myself leaning over and whispering to my Mom, “Why is the waiter being so nice? Drugs?”
Whoever does the hiring at this IHOP should get a raise. I have never encountered anything less that exceptionally friendly and prompt service. In addition, I learned last night that milk and juice are all-you-can-drink! Wha?! I’ve never heard of this before and I LOVE IT!
The food is delicious and is always served piping hot and fresh. My husband had the onion rings and I tasted one. It brought a tear to my eye. Their onion rings taste like childhood. I don’t know how they do it, but it’s true.
So, the next time you are downtown and find yourself hungry at any time of the day or night (IHOP is 24/7 you know), skip on over to Flower Street and ask for Lenette (Monday and Tuesday evenings and Thursday, Friday, Saturday graveyard).
It’s not just a restaurant, it’s a return to the happiness of youth. Too strong? Well, I suppose, but still, it’s great there.
