We’re kicking off our new weekly music news post with a ton of great information for all of the music festivals coming this summer, for those of you looking for some good new music, or for those of you who may just we working on your monitor tan and want some good new music.

  • Radiohead, Beck head for the Outside Lands Festival: Not wanting to miss out on the mega high- profile festival circuit, San Francisco has properly announced their line-up for the inaugural Outside Lands Festival. The concert takes place at Golden Gate Park on August 22-24 and will be headlined by Radiohead, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Jack Johnson. Also featured on the strong, eclectic line-up is Beck, Wilco, Manu Chao, Regina Spektor, Cold War Kids, Nelly McKay, Ben Harper, The Coup, Widespread Panic and dozens more. Tickets will set you back around $225, but the lineup might be worth the trek up there. Plus with gas prices so low you can’t afford NOT to take a road trip this summer.

  • Warped Tour Announce Los Angeles Date: The Los Angeles date for the 2008 Warped Tour has been announced. This year’s traveling punk show will, once again, play its final date of the season on the asphalt of the The Home Depot Center parking lot on August 17th. Keep reading past the jump for this year’s tour pleasantly strong line up.
    • It’s being anchored by political punkers Against Me! and Rise Against
    • The NASA sponsored Angels and Airwaves
    • Christian based rockers Relient K and Anberlin
    • Lastly, pop rappers Gym Class Heroes.
    • The show also features The Bronx, The Street Dogs, The Vandals, Say Anything, Cobra Starship, The Color Fred, The Briggs, The Horrorpops, Black President, MC Chris and tons more. Due to injury, David Beckham will sadly not be able to play this date, but I’m sure he will be there to wave from the bench.
    • As usual there will be something like a hundred bands on a dozen stages, skating demo’s, free energy drinks, a batting cage from Major League Baseball (?) and the vast friendly glow of mass consumerism that has become commonplace on summer package tours. Tickets are around $30 and are on sale now.
  • Nine Inch Nails Back In Town: Fresh off a very public record label split and a very affordable, internet downloadable instrumental album, cheery industrial rocker Trent Reznor is reforming the line-up of Nine Inch Nails for a US Summer tour (bring out the sun block, weenies, beach balls and black Hawaiian shirts!). The band will make their Los Angeles stop September 6th at The Forum. I’m guessing that since the tour is ends in L.A. a second and possibly third day may be added. Tickets will be on sale soon.
  • Coachella adds Aphex Twins, Goldenfrapp and others: This years underwhelming Coachella line-up has added a few more names. The concert, which takes place in Indio on April 25- 27, already features the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, Portishead, Kraftwerk, Les Savy Fav, Gogol Bordello, The Raconteurs, The Swell Season, Justice and a gaggle of others, has added Aphex Twin, Goldfrapp, Kate Nash, Serj Tankian, Redd Kross and Adele to their lineup. While Aphex Twin will bring some intrigue to whatever night they play (they strangely have not been assigned a day yet on the Coachella website), the show still seems a bit thin, especially on Sunday (sorry but My Morning Jacket is not a strong second headliner). With so many other big names playing summer festivals I can only suspect that Goldenvoice may still have a trick or two up their sleeve. Beck, please? With that said, Les Savy Fav (Friday) and Gogol Bordello (Sunday) are well worth the $90 ticket price on their respective days
  • She Wants Revenge and Be Your Own Pet play Nylon Tour: Los Angeles rockers She Wants Revenge (who still apparently want to f-ing tear you apart) will headline the 2008 Nylon Magazine tour with very special guests Be Your Own Pet, The Virgins and The Switches. The tour hits the House of Blues Anaheim on May 8th and The Wiltern on June 21st.
  • Green Day’s “Side Project”: “Unofficial” Green Day project Foxboro Hot Tubs have announced that their debut album “Stop Drop and Roll!!!” will be available for download on Amazon.com on April 8th and will be in stores on April 29th. The band released a 6-song EP late last year, and while the sound is pure Buddy Holly influenced 60’s rock, it is also unmistakably Green Day- esque, especially vocally. This is not the first time the Bay Area trio has released a “secret” side project: 2003’s The Network reportedly featured all three members of Green Day as well as the several of their “American Idiot” touring musicians.

I have to disagree. I’ve actually been to all but the initial year of Coachella and to me this years line-up is very smooth and nice. I’m in total disagreement that My Morning Jacket is not a good 2nd headliner. MMJ is nasty and will tear up the desert sunday night just you wait and see buddy. ROGER WATERS hello, you must be nuts to think Sunday is light, after two days of death and sleepless nights a mellow Sunday can be a very welcome friend.

I’m all for Coachella additions. Beck would be great. But the line up as is, is by no means “thin”. And listen to Jeff, a Coachella vet. You want a light Sunday, but with some heavy hitters. The biggest name of the entire weekend is on Sunday.

And My Morning Jacket is definately deserving of their spot. They may not be on the radio, but they have a huge following and are one of the best live acts in rock music. Goldenvoice knows what they’re doing.

Outside Lands, not to be missed.
