You remember it…the pride, the pressure…the spinning, bouncing ball flying towards your feet…the connection of hi-top to rubber…the look on that punk Josh’s face as your kick sails over his head, just out of his four foot reach.
You’d probably be lying if you said you’ve never once reminisced about your kickball glory days. Good news - those days don’t have to be over. The World Adult Kickball Association (WAKA) is an organization that sets up and governs league kickball play all across the country. Southern California is home to many WAKA divisions, so there’s a pretty good chance you can find one within a reasonable distance from where you live.
Joining is simple - you sign up and pay dues before the season starts. Different divisions have slightly different schedules, but in general there’s a fall, spring and summer season, each one culminating in a playoff.

If you’re good, maybe you’ll even make it to the national championship game…something to daydream about while you’re doing your taxes, or sitting at your desk, or doing something else just as painfully adult.Game schedules vary from division to division, but they are all on weeknights or weekends.

Two umps (usually from a neighbor team) are there to make sure everyone’s playing fair and square. Commitment level is relaxed - if you can’t make it to a game, no big deal. If you do it, try to get a group of people together to sign up at once. It can be a really fun thing to do after work with your friends. If you were a little kickball star in your heyday, it’s time for you to make your glorious comeback. If you were the kid that was always picked last…here is a chance to finally redeem yourself.
