policeswirlytape08-04-08Two teenage girls killed when taxi crashes - Daisy Orozco, 17, and Alexis Sandoval, 17, both students from Los Angeles were killed this morning at 1:30a.m., in City Terrace after one of them allegedly attacked the driver of the cab they were riding in with box cutters and he lost control of the vehicle. The taxi driver, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.

Here is what has been released so far about the situation: Apparently the girls flagged down the cab at 12:30am and asked to be taken less than a mile away, where one of their “boyfriend’s” would pay the fare, when the “boyfriend” approached the cab, he was carrying a gun and the driver took off with the girls in the car.

For some reason, one of the girls, it is not clear which one, began to stab the driver in the face with a box cutter. The driver lost control of the cab and crashed, The driver was wearing a seat belt and survived, but the girls were not and they were thrown from the cab and killed.

The driver was later seen bloodied and running from the crash, scaling a nearby fence and yelling, “Help me, somebody’s trying to kill me,” according to night shift workers at Precision Specialty Metals Inc., at 3301 Medford St., who helped the man inside and let him use a phone to call 911.

Relatives of the deceased girls say that the story does not seem to add up.

Orozco’s relatives said they last saw her Monday night as she left for a sleepover at Sandoval’s home on nearby Charlotte Street. They said she did not take anything with her, not even her purse, and may have returned home for clothes.

Andreina Orozco said that when she last talked to her sister at 10 p.m. Monday, the teenager said she planned to return home this morning.

Daisy Orozco’s family moved from Ramona Gardens to an apartment on nearby North Rinaldo Street about a year ago, but she still had friends there, her sister said.

Both teens had boyfriends, but neither lived in Ramona Gardens, and the girls had not planned to see them Monday night, Andreina Orozco said.

Andreina Orozco said she could not understand why her sister would take a cab such a short distance and why she hadn’t asked for cab money in advance or call for a ride, which she had in the past. She said that she and her mother often drove the teenager to friends’ homes. Sandoval’s mother picked Orozco up Monday night, Andreina Orozco said.

The only reason she would have attacked anyone was “if she thought she was in danger,” Andreina Orozco said.

Police are now investigating what really happened. Is the cab driver lying? Were the girls really crazy?

I believe that the girls only reacted because they though the were in danger. what would you do if you cab driver sped off were he was supposed to drop you off?
