
- 4 Killed in 60 Freeway Crash - A car crash on the 60 freeway killed four members of a church group, while one victim remained in stable condition. Five young men in a church group were in a 1994 Toyota Camry that was speeding and went out of control at about 10:45 a.m. on Friday. The car ended up striking the center divider and rolled over. Two died at the scene, and two died later at hospitals. The group was from Walnut Blessing Church of the Nazarene and was headed to an ice-skating rink, authorities said. The freeway was closed in both directions for hours and caused major backups and delays in the region 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.
- Oil spill in Long Beach Harbor - Nearly 50 gallons of oil has leaked from an underground pipeline into Long Beach Harbor, the The Coast Guard said. The leak was discovered late Thursday and the cleanup crew dispatched by the pipeline’s owner, Tidelands Oil Production Company, arrived within an hour, Lt. Anthony Munoz said. The leak affected bait fish, shellfish and crabs from a local fish market that had to be destroyed. The cleanup is expected to be completed within two weeks.
- Cops wounded, suspect killed in shootout - Shootings that happened Friday at the Pacific Beach Cities Stadium 16 left two police officers wounded and a young man dead. When the police officers went to escort the young man out of the theater, he opened fire, wounded one officer in the jaw and the other in the shoulder. The officers shot at him outside and he died on the scene.
- Chatsworth High Coach held in sex case - Andre Labeach, a coach for Chatsworth High School girls’ basketball team was arrested earlier this month on felony charges related to having sex with a minor, police said. Lebeach is being held on $80,000 bail in Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles and pleaded not guilty April 3 to four counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, according to police. According to court documents, the incidents occurred between March 2005 and December 2006.
